Relay Caedmon's Digital Artwork at the OZLAND Art Gallery

Relay lives and works out of his home in Sweden. He has no formal training in art. He is totally self taught.Working with his computer he combines RL photographs with SL scenery to create digital artwork. His inspiration comes from things around his RL. "AH HA experiences which can start a frenzy with me to create things I have been inspired to. I am also influenced by movies which I hope can be reflected into my art," says Relay.Visit the OZLAND Art Gallery for the month of February and see these Digital pieces of Art.

Tarot Card Paintings by alba2 Rossini at the OZLAND Art Gallery

The OZLAND Art Gallery welcomes back Alba2 Rossini.

When she last exhibited in OZLAND back in June of 2009 she only had 14 of the Major Arcana cards painted now 2 years later she will be exhibiting all 22!

Alba lives and works in Torino, Italy. She has spent some time in the United States and Venezuela, and her time there has influenced her vision of color and composition. She prefers oil painting because of the stickiness and brightness of the medium.

Oil painting also allows her to play with brightness and volumes. Her Tarot Cards, on board, are excellent examples of how she has mastered her art.

Ariadenise Bellic lives and works out of her home in the USA. She considers herself an "artsy" person and enjoys music as well as drawing. She went to college for three years for vocal perfomance but has no formal training in drawing. She is totally self taught.

Working from her computer she uses Corel Painter and a mouse to create her Digital artwork. Her inspiration? "Just whatever pops into her brain!" Right now she is selling her work ONLY in SL, but she would like to print and sell her work someday in RL .

Sandralee Palianta lives in Arizona where she loves to draw with Sharpie Markers and has even been accepted by the Sharpie Pen company to be in their "Sharpie Showcase" on their corporate website. She is proficient with all major graphics software programs and even enjoys Photography.

Her work in SL includes an exhibit at the Gateway Galleries. She has created paintings that are her own interpretations of the symbols that are part of theme The Perfect Form in Star Journey. She depicts the energies of the Star of Austerity and Star of Independence, also other symbols including The Field and The Fog. Her artwork is cleverly executed with Sharpie markers and many with the bold use of color.

These and other artistic drawings of Sandralee's can be seen the month of May at the OZLAND Art Gallery.

Tegan Jenvieve's Halloween exhibit "Dark Beauty" examines the intense contrasts and images on one moonlit Halloween night. All the images in Black and White harken back to the days when textures and composition alone, not special effects, could transport you to far off places and evoke deep thoughts.

On a lonely walk through a dark forest at midnight in SL, who knows what you will encounter......and if you make it home at all! Don't forget to look for the glowing gifts, these spooky objects want to come home and haunt your house too. See the exhibit at the OZLAND Art Gallery

Cowboy Darbyshire lives in southern Arizona and has been chasing storms for12 years. His work has been featured on national TV and on several syndicated channels.

He also has multiple storm photographs in various publications primarily in Asia and the South Pacific

Lightning photography is Cowboy's specialty and his passion for chasing storms at almost any hour of the night or day has been rewarded on several occasions with unique photographs from a variety of places in the desert southwest.

Van Caerndow's Western Paintings on Glass at the OZLAND Art Gallery - August 2010

"I paint on glass as a window to the worlds in my imagination"

Van Caerndow has developed a style of painting on glass (mostly miniatures) using a French water based craft paint called Pebeo, which is designed for glass and ceramics. After painting is done he bakes the glass for 20 minutes at 325 degrees. From these finished works he signs, and numbers Giclee prints at up to 400% of the actual size.

Jadyn Firehawk is a professional geographer & amateur photographer. Born in the Philippines she now lives in Texas.

She believes the mind behind the camera is more important then the quality of the camera. Her photos are taken with a Canon PowerShot point-n-shoot digital camera. She's tried a better camera but keeps reverting to her trusty point-n-shoot. She's concluded it's better to have a small camera in her purse at all times, than a fancy camera at home when she needs to capture a spontaneous shot the moment it catches her eye.

20+ suns are scattered high and low along the yellow brick road of our 2 Sky Villages at 300m.. some are along/on the road.. but some have shined their way into the stores. Be sure to check every store... some of our resident shoppe owners have hidden a sun or two in their stores too... winks... All suns have gifts in them... MOST have gifts made BRAND NEW for this hunt only!

Just TOUCH each sun you find and BUY for $0L.

Feel free to stay and enjoy what our sims, at 300m and ground level. OZLAND offers... fishing.. boating... surfing... games... shopping... etc... BUT... please be respectful of our residents homes.

There are presents in MOST of the Christmas Trees (but not all). Just right click and BUY the contents of the tree for 0L$. If you want to take a scenic tour around the waters of our 6 OZLAND sims there is a canoe rezzer by the Cat Inn Pub Dock (what a fun way to hunt for christmas trees :)

Scripted Objects in OZLAND

Dear OZLAND Resident

So that we can keep OZLAND and all it sims running smoothly we regularly look at the amount of script time being used . We need your help and co-operation to make sure this does not become problem and cause lag.

You will all know that there are limits to the number of prims you can rez on your land depending on how many square metres of land you own. What you may not know is that there is also a limit on the amount of script time that the sim can handle. Here is the science bit. If you want to read it please do. If not, read the 'Actions' section below.

THE SCIENCE BIT (and this is simplified!) (updated 10 May 09)

All SL sims try to run at 45 frames per second. Within that 1/45th of a second (about 22 milliseconds) the sim server has to carry out all the calculations and data transfer it needs to send an update to your SL browser. Things like data transfer to neighbouring sims, finding out if you are standing on something, knowing who is where, knowing what you can see from where you are all take priority and are done first. In any time left the sim runs the scripts that make things work like vehicles, pets, pose balls, TVs, radios, security devices, games, HUD attachments .... anything that interacts with avatars or other objects.

For a main sim (like OZLAND or OZLAND SW) this means that if total script time is greater than about 18 milliseconds something has to be left out as there is not enough time to carry out all the script actions. On a Homestead sim (because they share time with other sims) the script time cannot be more than 4 milliseconds before this happens.

What happens is that some scripts don't run within the sims time frame and have to wait their chance to run in the next, or the next, or the next. The more script time that is required the worse it gets. Even if script time goes only slightly above what the sim can handle existing scripts run even slower and the server has to drastically drop the number of frames per second it can run and there is major sim lag.

Unfortunately only Estate Managers can see how much script time anyone is using. It would be easier if you could monitor your own script time but Linden Lab do not see this as a priority. On mainland with this problem the Lindens just visit and return high script time objects without warning. They are looking at limiting the amount of memory that scripted objects can use based on plot size, that is not a very good solution but is a step forward, some scripts only use a very small amount of time other (often older scripts) can use a lot of time. If Linden Lab do implement scripted object limits we will let you know.

ACTIONS

1) Llola and I will be looking at script time usage on all the OZLAND sims every week. We know you cannot see what script time each of your objects uses and this will be a learning experience for all of us so please do not be offended if we contact you about possible problems. If there are urgent problems that severely impact on the sims performance we may disable scripts in a particular object before we contact you - for most objects it is a simple process to restart them later to see if there is a continuing problem.

2) We are going to set values for fair shares of script time for parcel owners - these will have to be shared with your partners/tenants/friends etc. - the numbers below allow a small overhead for avatar script time across the sims.

Per 512 sqm owned on Main sims (Ozland and Ozland SW) - 0.25 milliseconds
(so 0.5ms for a 1024, 0.75ms for a 1536, 1.0ms for a 2048 and so on)

Per small island owned on Homestead Sims - 1.0 ms
Per large island owned on Homestead Sims - 2.0 ms

3) If you are using more than your fair share of script time we will let you know and see if we can help reduce it.

4) We can now also see avatar script times relating to attachments - these vary a lot depending on the attachments you are wearing - we cannot see details of these but we will inform people whose script times are well above normal.

5) We ask all residents to carefully consider what scripted objects they need rezzed or running all the time. Some objects, furniture and pets have a stop or sleep mode that can be selected. Vehicles can be rezzed as needed and not left parked (that will save you prims too). Security devices and scanners only need to be on when you are in residence - no one can steal or damage your property in SL. If you have scripted objects made before mid 2008 then you may be able to recompile them in Mono which can run faster and therefore use less script time, but this is not always possible.

Donations to KWF - Dutch Cancer Society

During Annemaria and Liz's celebrations last Friday (13th) donation posters for
KWF Kankerbestrijding , the Dutch Cancer Society were placed round the ballroom, these together with donations made via Liz raised around €150 (euros) [$194 USD] towards this deserving charity.

There may have also been donations direct to KWF through their website and if you missed out on the day you can donate there now.

Annemaria and Liz wish to thank all who donated and for helping them celebrate their special day.

You can see on the map we have land for sale from residents leaving. We wish Stella, Zen, Gwenyth, Landen, and Gamp well in their SL journeys. If you know of anyone who needs a home, please let them know we have land for sale. See the plots for prices.
The 4 homestead SIMS main intans are located on the center park of each sim. I have separated the land by the intans for intimate dancing. N/S have Ballroom Glitz and W/E have Martini in Morning playing for ALL to enjoy. Hugsss

Happy New Year fellow OZLANDISHERS :)

With the new year come some changes to OZLAND. This note is to let you know some of the changes and our plans for OZLAND in 2009.

First ... Rozie and Joe have moved from OZLAND... We wish them well in the new year... they plan on visiting often... Their island is available to anyone who wants it for $0L from Joe for the next 3 days, until his tier runs out. It is the larger island in the EAST... the footprint is 64m x 64m with a 256 sqm boat rez area... The tier is 4240L week. Please let Sven or I know if you are interested.. or if you know of anyone interested in some land in OZLAND.

Next... Sven and I will be updating the tier mugs with the new prices on Sunday and Monday... With the new price increase from Linden Labs I will be taking a pay cut... Your continued support at Events is appreicated and will help me buy more things for OZLAND (i.e. dances for the Intan.. etc.) Please try and keep your tier mugs in the plus... also... DID YOU KNOW???? That anyone can pay your tier for you??? Yes... they can.. if you have renters or a partner and you are away...etc... they can pay your tier for you in weekly increments. Just click the tier mug and PAY... Tier mugs will accept payments up to 12 weeks in advance.

And lastly... our plans for the future of OZLAND... Over the next few months Sven and I will be looking for HOMESTEAD Open Space Sims to purchase from other SL residents who don't want them anymore... We would like to add sims to the 4 corners if possible...We would like them to be 1 or 2 owner sims... with the same covenant for OZLAND applying... i.e... no banlines... sims will have to be half water... no businesses... etc.. We have no future plans at this time to go bigger than 9 sims for OZLAND... but you never know... winks.. If you are interested (or know someone interested) in purchasing a whole sim... Please let Sven or I know.

What is a small business

We talk about 'small business' in the OZLAND Covenant. Below are some examples of what may be acceptable.

a) Photography Studios or other personal services where there will be normally no more than 1 or 2 clients present with the owner at any time.

b) Small shops selling 'Non-Adult' items using non-scripted Buy and/or no more than 5 scripted vendors per 512 plot. [Some scripted and networked vendors use considerable script time and you may have to restrict use of other scripted objects on your land]

c) Small gaming establishments using systems complying with Linden TOS and legal requirements in USA. Again these should be normally cater for no more than 1 or 2 clients at a time. We will look carefully at script time usage for this kind of business.

OZLAND Sky Village and Ballroom

On Saturday we held our first event in the newly opened OZLAND Ballroom. This is part of the new development of what is, in effect, a sim within a sim at 300m.

This 'Over the Rainbow' village allows us to keep the ground level of OZLAND as a residential only area while allowing space, 'way up high' for a large ballroom , stage area for concerts, shopping and even a sim wide 'Yellow Brick Road'

Come visit - you will enjoy :) Put on your 'Ruby Slippers' and have a dance or search for the squished witch.

New Sims Ready

Residents will have noticed that we have 4 new sims around Ozland.

They will soon be ready for occupancy. These are Openspace Sims which mean they share one CPU between the four and are intended for light use. Each sim has five islands, four of these with a 2304 sq m plot surrounded by a quarter of a sim of protected park and water. The central island on each sim is a themed park area.

We will be offering these island plots for an initial purchase price of 32000L$ ( or $120 USD by PayPal) with a tier charge of 1720L$ per week (or $28 USD per month by PayPal).

At present the plots have only a 450 prim allowance but recent changes by Linden Labs mean that this will increase to 900 prims (we are told by the end of March)

There is a map display by the Ozland pub showing the layout of the islands and which have already been reserved.

A Concert and a half :) - Thank you Syd & .......

Well the Ozland Grand Opening started with a bang, or to be precise a crash - a sim crash followed by a failure of some of SL's login servers. But the show went on! Our guest musician, Syd Sidran and our resident pilot, Arwin Lane were first back into the sim after the crash and arrived safely at the helipad by the stage.

By the time Sven and Llola made it back, the crowds were gathering again and we were able to enjoy Syd's mastery of the piano, keyboards and guitar for over an hour.

For Llola the highlight was Syd's rendition of Pink Floyd's Money, which Syd had added to his repertoire especially at her request - AWESOME SYD!

Many thanks to everyone who came to the concert and made it an evening to remember.
